Default Negotiating a Settlement Before Consulting a Lawyer

I am going to represent myself for a while. Get a settlement number on the table, then see how much a lawyer will go for. If it less then my net why hire the lawyer?

    Thanks

What is wrong is that the total settlement that a lawyer will get you, even after their fee is taken out, will be higher than a settlement that you can negotiate on your own.

Often that is the case. I would not say always.

If your settlement is anywhere within the realm of reason, though, you may find that lawyers aren't particularly interested in picking it up unless they still will be paid based on the entire settlement amount, in which case there's little benefit from this strategy.

I may have stated it incorrectly let me lay out the numbers.

    I negotiate a settlement of 10,000 dollars.

I have a lawyer look at it and say if you can get more then 14,000 lets move forward. I would be happy to give the lawyer 1/3rd of the total settlement, but I would have to at least net at least the 10,000 grand.

That would tell me if it is worth a lawyer.

    Thanks

Try negotiating that deal with an area law firm.

I just do not know how to say any more plain. I would pay the lawyer on the entire settlement amount.

There is a echo in here

    Thanks

Based on your above posts, it sounds like you would like to conditionally pay the lawyer on the entire settlement amount.

(I'm not sure that lawyers are all too excited about working with any conditions on their potential income)
