Recently I was arrested when I was getting a ride with a friend of mine. She was pulled over for speeding and the police claimed that they smelled marijuana.
They searched the car and found nearly 4 ounces in the glove box. she told the police that it was not mine and I DID NOT know about it or have anything to do with it. 3 of us(including another passenger, my poor friend who was also getting a ride) were arrested and charged with a felony possession. Basically the cops screwed us.
I have spoke with an attorney who has said that the case should get dropped.
She is ready to testify or do anything necessary to help me.
Her case is already over, she pleaded guilty to possession under 2 ounces and got probation
I received a letter in the mail for my court date that stated I was being charged for possession of 2-4 ounces, I am guessing they changed the charge to a misdemeanor, because the letter did not say.
I am a student that is about to graduate college, I am looking forward to taking my LSAT next year and cannot afford to have this case on my record.
I have a court date on Friday. and money is an issue...so I have a few questions
Do I need an attorney the first day of court?
I have been told it may not be necessary for the first day, I think if I need the case dropped it is necessary
Should i take the girl to a notary and have here write an affidavit? if so what should she put into the affidavit?
How else can I prepare myself for court?
What will i be asked? What will happen on the first day?
Sorry for all the questions, but my future could be on the line here and I want to be well informed.
Thanks for reading
