    Default Charging Instruments

I need to know what charging instruments are. Also what the charging instrument is for a felony and misdemenaor and their difference.

It depends upon the jurisdiction. In some jurisdictions, you'll get a citation for a misdemeanor - it may look pretty much like a traffic ticket, but with a box checked indicating that it is a misdemeanor. A felony charge is often called an "information", and includes essential information such as the name of the suspect, the date of the alleged offense, and the statute(s) allegedly violated.
