Getting a license in another state before suspension

I was charged with a DUI, and will likely face conviction, and thus suspension on my Virginia driver's license in December.
However, in the fall I moved to Maryland, and by law I have to get a Maryland license 60 days after moving into the state. This will be before the court date, which technically means I will be getting a Maryland license before the conviction on my Virginia license.

What exactly is going to happen to my Maryland and Virginia licenses then?
I was hoping that this may work out to my advantage; i.e. they will suspend the Virginia license while leaving my Maryland one available.

A: I suspect both will be suspended/revoked. However, why don't you ask the folks in Maryland who are in charge of giving these things out?

From my past experience both personal and employment, I suspect your Maryland license will not be suspended. I wont go into why as it can be difficult to explain with a few words of text. There are two important things you need to keep in mind though. 1) Don't drive in the state of Virginia!! 2) You will need to clear up your hold in Virginia before your Maryland license expires. If Virginia does not take your name out of the NDR, Maryland will not issue you a renewal license. Also, whatever you do, don't MISPLACE your Maryland license!! If you do and need a duplicate, Maryland will find that Virginia has placed a hold on you and you will have to clear up that matter now or wait until your suspension time is up. Most states only spend money doing NDR checks when a new license is issued or a duplicate is requested. Unless you have many convictions in VA, you should be eligible for reinstatement there before your Maryland license is up for renewal. I hope this is enough info.
