Will Police Go Out of State for Extortion

If someone was scammed on a Craigslist extortion scam (for a few thousand $) and reported it to the police, what would happen if the scammer lived in a different state? Also, what if the scammer was a minor?

the police in your state could NOT go to the other state. They have no authority there. What you want to know is whether the prosecutor in your state/area will consider filing charges on a person in another state for the crime you speak of. They may or may not.

It was a craigslist scam. The common one where the mom get mad for finding the daughter emailing the man, and the daughter is "underage". The mom wants money for therapy. The stolen money was about $3k. There is still evidence of the scam on email. Also, the scammer claims to be a minor. What would happen?

If there was no sexual oriented communications in the emails, you would have nothing to worry about so I'm guessing you were telling the girl you were going to rock her world.

The person in the email pretending to be the girl claimed to be underage (but they were fake and the pictures received were not of any underage girl), but the scammer themselves is underage. Will being underage help the scammer get out of trouble?

COULD the police investigate and seek the arrest of a fraud/extortion suspect from another state? Absolutely! However, depending on the details, it may not be possible to make the case. Though I am a little confused as to how you could be blackmailed from Craigslist ... unless ... you answered a sex ad, sent naked photos, and it t=urns out the person at the other end is claiming to be a minor ...

The odds are that no arrest will occur and you might have to seek remedy through the civil courts if you can.

This is why I tell anyone that will listen: Avoid Craigslist! Not a week goes by that we don't hear some nightmare report of a thief or scammer operating on there, and if the deal is out of state, don't even bother!

Yes it was a sex ad. I heard that the feds will not go after anyone between states if it is not over 3k stolen. Is this true?
