Default Asssault and battery on a minor
I just turned 18 and to make things short, i beat up a 15 year old for cheating with my girlfriend. i hit him 4 times and his face and he didnt hit me back, i also threw the first punch, he got pretty messed up. i dont think he went to the hospital but the cops called me the next day saying that i should call him and say sorry and that he would call me the next day with the number. Well its been a week and he still hasnt called me back, and i heard from a friend that the kid i beat up is gonna press charges on friday. What are all the things that can happen to me? I live in Ventura County California.

You can be charged with a criminal offense, the severity of the charge depending in part on what you mean by "pretty messed up". If convicted, depending upon your record, you would likely be sentenced to probation or to a period of jail followed by a period of probation.

I would suggest that you consult a local criminal defense lawyer.

You will be looking at a lot more than a fine once they settle on the charges, most likely a felony charge. So you can anticipate both a fine, including restitution and some jail time in either the county jail or state prison.

You might want to call a criminal defense attorney today and begin preparing your defense, that will cost you money up front in addition to any fines or penalty the court orders. If you cannot afford an attorney one will be appointed if you qualify at your arrignment, but you would be wise to at least consult one before your arrignment. Even though you have not been served with a restraining order, act as if one has been issued and stay away from both your victim and your girlfriend if she is still your girlfriend.
