    Default Moving before notice date

I have lived in a room I rented in a house in san jose, california. for 1+ years. The landlord verbally gave me a notice to leave on June 1st and asked to leave by July 1st because his daughter and family is moving into this house.

I moved 12 days before the the date he specified. He tells me he is not obliged to give me the money back for 12 days. Can anyone tell me what is the deal with this and what the law says about this.

    Thanks a lot.

    Default End of Tenancy

Normally, the notice creates an end date for your tenancy, and you would pay rent through that date even if you move sooner. You may wish to contact a local lawyer or tenants union to see if an exception applies in your circumstance.
