Just cut it off. Or, go into another department store which uses the tags (is it a hard white tag?) and ask that they remove it. Most stores/sales clerks will do it for you. If you don't want to go that route, just simply pry it and insert wire cutters SNAP! you are done. People rip/tear/cut those things off all the time without damaging the merchandise.

I highly doubt that you want to mail your jacket off to them, too many things can/will happen. Try and take care of it locally.
    Thanks for the tip bam!

No problem - EAS is generally worthless and we are working on ways to take it out of our stores. The costs are not worth the rewards.

I do not condone stealing and if you steal I hope you get caught.

If you do not want to try any of the above options - buy your own detacher at a surplus auction or on an online auction site.

If a shoplifter is determined to get the tag off they will. Shoplifting is not rocket science as we all know. I was addressing the question at face value. I purchased a jacket out of town, they left the security tag on and I need to get it off. I answered it. I seriously doubt I have enabled someone and assisted them in stealing.

    Also, read -

Good skills souper - you should thank me for encouraging people to steal apparently it gives you job security - ha.

".....addressing the question at face value." Puhleeeeze! You put it out there very specific steps for defeating / removing tags. A true face-value response would've been something like take it to a L&T, or other Federated store in the area, along with your credit statement showing the purchase and they can look up the original purchase.

But I suppose that having a big ole college degree leads to a tendency to over-think!

Guess that college degree qualifies the holder as an "online tutor". Thankfully, I have never had the need or desire to hoist merchandise, however, nice of BAM to make an online public service announcement as to how to beat the system.

It qualifies that particular holder for something, but I'll play nice and not mention what I think it is!

I've seen a number of sites that are pro-booster. BUT, given the fact that bam is allegedly an LP exec, it seems to me that excercizing discretion should be the better part of his "valor".

    But he is sooooo helpful!!!!!

Go away if you're going to play nice. How much more discreet can it get? Online info is the ultimate in secrecy, isn't it?
