    Question Company closing

    after working at this plant for 10+ years they are closing the doors here in connecticut the problem is now they want everyone to sign a non-disclosure
    and a settlement, release and waiver agreement in order to be offered a
    minamal severance. however the settlement agreement has not been completed there are blank spaces throughout the 8 page document to be filled in with the approapate informmation i guess, should i sign these papers without them being filled out? they told me if idonot they will contest my unemployment compinsation and i will be terminated asapis this some type of corperate blackmail?

    a basic rule.
    do not sign a blank contract.

    If I sign a contract with blanks, the blanks are lined out and initialed (by me and prefferabley the other party) to show they were blank. What may get added later may haunt you forever.

    I would also strongly suggest any agreement be taken to an attorney for his/her opinion.

    i would think it would be difficult for them to fight your unemployment comp. case when you can call anyone else who worked there to testify that they closed the entire plant, and that you obviously weren't terminated for cause.

    tell them to shove it.

    thank you for your imput realy appreciated, can they hold back the severance
    because of the contracts?

    if the severance pay is being paid voluntarily by them, I would think so. if you had an employment contract that states you would get severance then no.
