Default No License Plates Violation, VC 5200(A)

My question involves vehicle maintenance laws for the State of: California

I received a citation today with citation code 5200(a) V.C with the uncorrectable violation. I bought a new car but failed to put the new plates on. I told the officer that I forgot to put it on but he didn't take the excuse and issued me a ticket. My question is, will I receive a point on my record and is there any way to get this ticket changed to a correctable one? I was thinking of trying to talk to a judge and ask kindly if I can just put my plate on and possible pay the correctable offense. I'm more concerned about the point than the penalty, since I got a ticket about 1 1/2 years ago. I know it was my fault for failing to put it on but I wanted to know if I had any options for this particular case.

Also, how much is the fine for this citation?

    Any help would be appreciated.

How long had you been driving without the plate affixed to your car?

Yes, a violation of VC 5200(a) is a one point offense.

It's been probably over a year, which I admit isn't legal. I forgot about it, since it's a work related car and isn't always driven. I had a secondary car but it recently died, so I switched to driving the new car more often now.

If it's going to be a regular point on my record, I might want to talk to the judge and ask if there is any way I can get it fixed, pay the fine and possibly not get my point. Would this even be possible for the judge to do it, if I try to talk to him?

You can try. The judge has the discretion to treat the violations as correctible even if the officer didn't mark it as such.
