Warrant over a bad check in Indiana
About four years ago I got married and the person I married was a finacial disaster. Well less then a year ago we divorced, and I have finally gotten to where I can start taking care of all the finacial disasters associated with the marriage I had. (creditcard, medical, utilities etc that might still be unpaid). Well imagine my surprise when I find a letter from Wal-Mart for a bounced check (from around 4 years ago also). I don't ever recall seeing the mail before, but I call wal-mart to see if it was paid or if it is still pending. Their corporate office told me they still had it and gave me a number to call to the local branch to take care of the past due amount, which I have called, and they were out to lunch, but I plan to call back and resolve the bad check ($22.89 check with a $20.00 check fee : total of $42.89). Being a Court-TV fan and nowing that this might have excalated further due to time, I decided to check the internet to see if anything existed. Well apparently there is a Criminal Deception warrant in the state/county this occured in for it.
So my question is, once I take care of the issue with Wal-Mart do I also need to contact the state/county this occured in to get this warrant resolved, or would wal-mart handle that? The location is multiple states away from where I live (I am assuming this occured during the honeymoon due to location and date). Or do I need to get ahold of an attorney in that county to resolve it, and what are the odds that I will have to travel there verses being able to resolve it from where I live.
Also, once this is resolved, does this appear on background checks, or can that also be taken care of ?
One thing I have learned for sure, never marry a finacial disasater.
