Default Statute of Limitation for Felony ID theft in Washington DC
I am writing to inquire about the statue of limitation for 1st degree felony ID theft. I was arrested on this charge in Washington DC. this was in July 2006, and i am wondering what the statue of limitation for this crime is, because it is now 3 months later but i have not been indicted yet and i am presently waiting to hear how my case will proceed. I have a public defender who i have not heard from in about a month's time now. i have only been to court once, in which my public defender suggested for me to waive the pre-trial proceedings.
should i be worried by all this silence or what can i do as it is? again i have not been indicted on this charge, so i do not know what is going on or what i should do. should i just sit and wait untill i hear something, hoping that the statue of limitation will be up? if so, what is the statue of limitation for 1st degree ID theft Felony in DC.
any help you have will be appreciated. thanks

Once you are charged, the statute of limitations stops running. You are represented by counsel, so ask your lawyer about your "speedy trial" rights.
