Default DNA testing in Tennessee
I am a about to be a father. The baby will be born out of weddlock. We are not married and I want custody rights to my child because my girl friend told me if we split up she is not going to let me have custody rights. ok well here is my question. If she takes the baby out of state before its born and has the child can I get custody rights to my child? Also one other question if I do sign the the birth certificate and I get a DNA test done and it is not mine will I still have to pay child support even though ive signed the birth certificate? Also heres a little more info on her she does not have a job,she is on TENNCARE,and she does live with me.

If you acknowledge paternity without knowing if you're the father, you do so at your own peril. Some states make it very hard to undo an affidavit acknowledging paternity or your voluntarily placing your naem on the birth certificate. If in doubt it makes sense to get the DNA test result first. If the mother is agreeable, you can get your own private DNA test, perhaps even through the hospital where the child is born.

You can initiate paternity proceedings in the state where the child is born, whether in Tennessee or elsewhere. The court will order DNA testing.
