Default How Can an Adult Correct Father's Name on Birth Records

I hope you can help. My mothers' ex husband is on my birth certificate. At the time of my birth many years ago, they were still married. I know he's not my father, he knows he's not my father and my father knew He was my father. My school records and other lifelong records reflect my true parentage. How can I get my birth records changed. This is in the state of Md.

Who is the father? What's his position on this?

Her second husband is my natural father. Now deceased. Has raised me and acknowledged me always. Also acknowledged and known to be his by his entire family. Thank you.

You can file to amend your birth certificate or change your name on it, but he was your legal father because he was still married to your mother at that time.

    You are welcome.
These are things that parents should take care of for their children in a timely manner, unfortunately they often have their reasons and figure if no one complains, why rock the boat.

I remember the mental anguish an elderly woman experienced when in the process of applying for a passport to take a cruise, she not only discovered she was not a USC, born in a Canadian logging camp with no official records other than the family Bible, but that her parents were both adopted into the same family, as well, all secrets, she thought she was born in Sacramento where her parents met as adults!
