Question Forcing Paternity Test
I have just turned 19 years old and I am 14 weeks pregnant. I was casually seeing the father of the time of conception but we are no longer seeing each other and I will soon be engaged to another man. I have been told by a friend of the father that he is going to extreme measures to receive joint custody of the child. This scares me because I am quite certain that it is not safe for the child to be alone with him. His immediate family has a history of drownings of children under the age of two due to neglect, the father has a history of alcoholism, sex with other men, and was dishonorably discharged from the Coast Guard for sex with a minor. In addition to these issues, he does not have the common sense to be safe around a child.
I reside in Idaho and was wondering what rights he has to the child if I don't put his name on any of the legal documents (hospital records, birth certificate etc). Is it legal for me to list no one as the father or to list my fiance if I know who the biological father is? Can he order me to a paternity test and receive joint custody that way? Is there any way I can avoid his involvement for the sake of my child's safety?

Default Re: Forcing Paternity Test
If you won't agree that he is the biological father, he is within his rights to petition a court to declare him the child's father. That normally occurs after birth, with a paternity test to confirm parentage.
