Default Choked at party, do I have a case?
Ok, heres the deal. I am a college student and I went to a party. I brought MY TAP for a keg to a party. This is the second time I brought it there, and the guys that lived there knew that I brought it both times. This time when I brought it, I brought a chain and a lock to make sure no one stole my tap. When the beer was gone, I unlocked the lock, and took the lock, chain, and tap. I put the chain and lock in my hoodie, and I put the tap in my back pocket. The next thing I knew, someone came up behind me and put me in a choke hold and took me to the ground. He continued to choke me and said "'tryin to steal the tap, tryin to steal the tap!!" At this point, I was on the ground, and tried telling him, it's my tap. Finally he got off of me, and I showed him it's my tap, and took out the chain and lockout of my pocket (it's a combination lock by the way). Someone who lived in the house came up and tried to clear everything upand told the other guy that I bring the tap with me to that house. Then, I looked over and the guy that was choking me was gone. A friend of me saw him and can identify him. I am wondering if I have a case against him. Thanks for the advise.

Would I be able to press charges against the people who were throwing the party?

Well, he was a friend I guess of the people who lived in the house. Even if I cant press charges against the house, can someone else verify that I do have a case against that individual?

Call the police and you can make a report for battery, at the very least. No, you cannot charge anyone else for the offense besides the suspect. Unless someone encouraged the attack or somehow aided him, the guy who choked you is the only one liable for the attack.

Depending on how much time has passed and how busy the department is, the police may not be expending a great deal of effort to solve this. Can anyone identify the suspect by name? Recognizing his face is not going to do a lot of good if no one knows who he is. It is doubtful that the police are going to track down everyone at a kegger to try and get follow-up information on what likely is a misdemeanor offense.

Fights at beer-bashes do not get the same kind of attention that a mugging on the street might get.
