Default Affidavit Of Parentage in Tennessee
I gave birth to my son in the state of Tennessee. His father was not present at the birth. He wants to sign the affidavit of parentage; however, I cant seem to find the means on any websites for him to do it. He lives in Arizona and I live in Maryland now with my son. Does he go through Tennessee? Where does he have to go to sign the affidavit (as in what department of the state)? Can he fax it or mail it, or does he physically have to be present? Also, if he signs this affidavit, will he automatically be put on the birth certificate? Sorry for all of the questions, but TN state seems to constantly give me the run around, and never a straight answer.

It may be easier to bring a paternity lawsuit, then have the father admit that he's the father as part of that lawsuit.

If you contact the Tennessee Department of Human Services, they may be able to tell you if you can each execute an affidavit of paternity in your present states (separately executing the same form), then return it for registration in the county where the child was born. To bring a paternity action, the easiest way probably is to get help from a lawyer.
