Divorce overseas

Married in New York than move back to Hong Kong at once after the married.
Then things got nasty and we both separated (not legally by lawyer). She was in New York for a brief visit to our child. So decided to get a divorce.

In any event, she decided that the divorce paper are not in her favor, so she wanted to go back to Hong Kong and find a lawyer there to process the divorce...

Can a divorce be done overseas if married in New York, and would NY Court honor this if I were to get marry in the future?

If yes, do I have to file a copy of the judgement from overseas to the New York State Court for record?

You can divorce overseas and have your divorce recognized in the U.S., although you would need both a copy and a certified translation of the divorce judgment consistent with the laws and court rules of any U.S. state in which you tried to register the foreign judgment.
