Verification of Inventory at Sam's Club

does anyone know how frequently Sam's club verifies their inventory to match with the sales..It's been 15 days since I treceived an iem by mistake..I mean they scanned a $1000 item as $50...(price tags switched but not me..)..Can someone shed some light on this????Thanks - Stalin Michael

you're right..in my previous thread I mentioned $79.99..in this thread $50.00. Basically I wanted tell people that it i scanned for less...Thx.

I seriously recommend that you just go back there and return it. Either way, returning it or not returning it, there's still an amount of risk. At least by preemptively deciding to do the right thing, the store managers will look at you with favor (since you can also claim it was a mistake, etc)

Security, do you really work in the retail enviroment? There is no way that the transaction would be red flagged because the computer thinks everything rang up normal. Stalin didn't use coupons, discounts or stolen credit cards/checks.
The receipt would look like this - (just example)

ITEMS:
Soap $4.99
Car Products $16.99
Paper Towels $2.59
Coke $4.59
Printer $79.99
Health Care $.99

The computer cannot tell if the items being scanned are the actual items being scanned. All they do is read the information from the UPC and calculate totals etc. Now if this were a self checkout, the weights would be off and the attendant would be alerted. Hopefully, they would have realized that the pricing was off and fixed it. If Stalin has not been caught now, the chances that he will be caught are even slimmer than when he perpetrated the fraud.

Stalin, do what you want to do, just don't repeat this again because your next post will be about your arrest for fraud. To clear your mind, go to the store, tell the manager you were balancing your books and came across this receipt. That is when you noticed the item was not the correct price and you want to make it right. If you are really paranoid, just wait 30 days and do it, that is when most video is recorded over (either digital or tape).

Just do the right thing stalin and you won't have to worry about all these silly questions like when does Sam's Club check monthly receipts and when they do audits etc.

Some stores have an 'inventory audit' department that monitors theft/damage & destroy and salvaged items. Some high ticket or high theft items are counted on a regular basis and shortages are researched. Sometimes it shows up on paper sometimes it shows up on tape, either way the theft of the lap top will be discovered. Whether or not it will point to you is a different matter......

If I were going to try to detect this, I would probably start not at the register or with the receipts, but with the surveillance video for the computers. Scan at high speed until I see one come off the shelf, and cross-reference that with sales. Maybe I would be lucky and actually spot somebody switching tags. If not, I could try to spot the person who removed the item from the shelf in the checkout videos, perhaps assisted by whether I can see any other item or items he is buying which would thus be likely to appear on the receipt for the sale. But that's just me.

Those are good ideas, but in reality are not cost effective. While researching this loss, how much more is going out the door? If they discovered it 15 days after the incident (remember, they don't even know if this computer made it to the floor - it could have been stolen at the DC, not even on the truck, employee theft and/or shoplifted) they would have to scan a TON of video.

The profit margin on those computers that SAMS/COSTCO sell is extremely high and the cost of the hourly wage paid to review video would soon surpase the value of the computer.

I am hesitant to say that the loss of the computer will be discovered. It will show up on paper that it is missing, but actually pointing the finger at Stalin and saying that he is the reason for its disappearance will be like saying who killed JFK - no one really knows.

Stalin - you got the computer for cheap - stop thinking about it and either
A) return if and pay the difference or B) shut up and stop talking about it.

If you really want SAMS to find out about it, post where you purchased it and the date you did and I will personally make sure that they know the true story behind the computer - I will take all the posts you made about "scamming" them and bam! they will be knocking at your door.

Also, word to the wise - some LP's try and make it look like retail stores are protected like Fort Knox. This is not the case. While we have good LP's that catch a lot of people - the odds of you getting caught are small. That being said, do not shoplift - when caught you will mess up your entire life (no one wants to hire a thief) and spend more money on fines, attorneys and legal fees than the cumulative dollar value of the items you have stolen.

Change your mindset and steal no more....(that goes for you too Stalin).
