First Offense MIP

my sun got a summons notice yesterday for mip violation.Apparently he and two of his friends had been caught in kirkland park(washington) with an open beer.the police officer took breath test from all three of them and let them go.the summons notice is for an araignment,appearing in court in october.
Just wanted to know of any sugestion

He would likely benefit from consulting a local lawyer to see if there is any way to avoid a conviction (e.g., a diversion program or deferred sentence), as otherwise he is apt to end up with the conviction on his record.
