Married, and there is a possibility baby's father is someone else
I am in a situation that is not fun at all, but I am having a lot of problems finding information to help me out. My husband & I have been married for about 5 years. This winter (February) he went out of town during a time in which we were somewhat separated and I had an affair with another man. The possibility of the baby being the “other” mans is very high since I was with him during the time which it is predicted I conceived. My husband & I are back together & things are actually really good. He knows about the “other” man and the possibility that the baby is his. The “other” man also knows, we are still friends and have talked about what options there are if he is actually the father. The problem I am finding is that I’m not sure what to do because I am still legally married. From what I understand my husband is presumed the father because we are married. I want & need to know if there is a chance this baby is the other mans for my own well-being and also for his knowledge and my baby’s. What can I do to request a paternity test? Does my husband have to sign the birth certificate when the baby is born? Is there anything else I need to know due to my circumstances?
I saw that you asked someone else to provide additional information so I answered the questions that were asked:
In what state do you and your currently husband reside? Alaska
Do you and your husband live together? Yes
If you were separated, did you have any separation agreements filed with the courts and or orders? No
Were you and your husband living together when the baby was conceived? Yes
Is there any chance the baby is your husband's? There is a small chance
How many weeks pregnant are you? 36 1/2
Does your husband know that there is a possibility this isn't his child? Yes

Re: Married, and there is a possibility baby's father is someone else
Hi well since you have told your husband and the other man and it sounds like you guys are in a civil relationship. when the baby is born can't the three of you get the DNA tests and leave the father signiture off of the birth cirtificate until the results come back. I don't know much about the law but I know that your husband has to sign the birth cirtificate for his name to be one itand then when you do find out you can change it hope everything works out for you and it must have taken a lot of courage for you to tell your husband about your situation you could have kept it to your self like my mother did but in the long run it would have been much harder for your husband and your child to deal with so I give you lots of credit for doing now rather than later and I hope it all goes well for you and your family

If you don't know much about the law, why do you answer a question after OP was already referred to the appropriate legal references for her state?

Re: Married, and there is a possibility baby's father is someone else
As we're speaking of your child, you can have your own paternity test conducted at any time you choose. The typical testing is now done by cheek swab, so it's not painful for a newborn (or for the parent). From what I have heard, private testing usually costs about $250 - $350. If everybody's cooperative, you should be able to have both possible fathers tested as part of the same test - the cost would presumably be a bit higher, but still cheaper than two separate tests.

This poster has another thread re trying to establish paternity of her father who has been dead 14 years and her potential 1/2 brother not wanting to cooporate. It isn't about her child.
