What Work is Legal on a Student Visa

I understand that F1 status allows me to work only on campus or do internships related to my course of study administered by my university. Does my F1 status somehow limit other activities I may undertake? E.g. would it be legal for me to tutor students in a foreign language for money on campus? Am I allowed to sell my stuff? What other legal options of money-making do I have?

Neither activity you mention is legal. You were to have had sufficient funding available for your program expenses in order to receive an I-20 from the university. You have very few options.

You need to go and speak with someone in the international office at your institution; they will describe the consequences for working illegally while a student.
