Default Statute of Limitations on a bench warrant

Hi i have a family member that has a bench warrent for a hit and run. Was wondering when that statue of limitations runs out on it? I have been told by many people that everything has a statue of limitations. So I was wondering how long from the date the warrent was active, Untill it expires. Also what happens after that? Is the person legal to walk into a courthouse and get a new drivers liscense? Im going to leave a little info just incase it helps. It is in Minnestoa , There was many court dates in the case , And the person had missed court and was released on bail of 500$ , Then missed the next court date. So any info would be very helpful. Thank you for your time. P.S. The bail was provided by the parents, so it was not through a bail bondsman. Once again thanks.

Default Re: Statute of Limitations on a bench warrant

The statute of limitations stops running when charges are authorized, which has happened in the case you describe as otherwise a warrant would not have issued. A suspect gets no special break for failing to appear in court or violating his bond. The person should consdier getting help from a criminal defense lawyer to attempt to resolve the warrant and charge.
