You're probably right ... and if so, the next question might be how the officers knew that such a system was in place to begin with? Was the OP bouncing up and down on the road?

    hey, I already asked that.

now, if you went hoppity hoppity with it, then that would be operating it in an unsafe manner and in violation of the code cited. The same if you dropped it below the legal height limits allowed for your car.

I had asked how the officer became aware of the air suspension. OP responded with:

i was pulled over for a "suspuscion of carrying illegal items" and he called CHP to inspect the vehicle
I don't know but would a tank like that be something similar to anything used in a portable meth lab?

I guess if OP wants answers, he'll have to come back and provide some more info.

Hmm ... well, if he were bouncing up and down on the road, I might suspect he was carrying illegal items as well - specifically the hydraulic system.

Air systems that are operated in an unsafe manner or that allow the vehicle to hang below the base of the rims can be cited for 24002 or 24008. I suspect the OP was making a public display for the world to see and the officer saw it but had to call for CHP because he did not quite know what section(s) might apply. Plus, it is not uncommon to find improper equipment under the hood of many of these vehicles and it takes some specialized training to understand what you are looking for under the hood. (While I HAVE that training, I am so rusty at it that I would have top pull out my cheat sheet!)
