    I missed that. Actually that could be defamatory, if untrue. If he has taken any food home, ever, it is a truthful statement.

    If it is a lie, then OP would have to show damages. If there are none, there is no value to his claim.

    In all honesty that wouldn't even come CLOSE to supporting a defamation suit.

    Unless of course he worked for Bobby Flay and was accused of removing hundreds of dollars' worth of food each night.

    I'm sorry, but saying someone "[takes] food home" isn't defamatory even if true unless, for instance, you can prove, say, you got fired for taking food home (whatever that means in this context).
