Default How to Find Out if a NCIC Search Ws Done On Your Record

Is it possible for a US citizen to find out what lookups have been done on them in the NCIC (National Crime Information Center) database and who made the searches? There have been many cases of misuse of NCIC records for illegal purposes, but how can an individual get an accounting of these disclosures to determine if their records were misused?

Illegal NCIC searches? How? Arrests and convictions are public records.

YOU can't get such an accounting. You can report any suspicion of misuse to the agency in question, and THEY can get an accounting of every inquiry through their terminals. If you're asking if there's a way for you to get a list of every time you've been inquired on - no, there's not.

Yes, it is possible. No, you will not be able to find this out.

It would require a court order as part of an active court case. You cannot simply file a request for that information on the premise that someone somewhere had done an unlawful search before. If you have an articulated belief that a specific employee has done this unlawfully, you can start with a complaint to that agency and they can look into it.

If you have specific questions as to the standards for NCIC or state database functions in your state, contact the agency responsible for those databases in your state. If you were to provide your state, I could get that contact information for you.
