My question involves guardianship in the State of: Kansas
I am not the parent or guardian of this 16 year old girl, I am actually the ex step parent (was married to her dad and have since divorced him). She came to live with me when I found out that her dad was leaving her weeks at a time by herself. Her mother lives out of state so I called her and went and picked her up. He mother can not take her and her father seemed just fine she is living with me. I really need to get her in school and am facing road blocks right now!! I am not on her birth certificate and I have no legal paper that says that I am the guardian so the school isn't allowing her to enrollment through. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. Is there a law that all kids have to go to school unless their parents say so? What can I do about this? I can't stand the idea that coming to live with me is worse than where she was, please help.
