Default Applying for Naturalization with a Deferred Adjudication of Guilt on Record

    Hi all,

I was charged with a felony of evading arrest on a motor vehicle in Texas back in 2006. I took the plea bargain and got a 2 year deferred adjudication of guilt which ended as of November 25, 2008, and now I'm trying to apply for naturalization. I have already applied once and unfortunately I was denied (no one to blame but myself). Is there a chance that the USCIS would approve my application if I apply again or should I just hire an immigration lawyer? And if I choose the latter option, how likely will I succeed? Thanks in advance.

You weren't charged with felony evading arrest in a vacuum - you drove away from the police for a reason. You didn't share the reason, so we don't know if it was a stupid reaction to the possibility of a speeding ticket, or if there's another serious crime lurking out there that was dismissed as part of a plea bargain. So yes, by all means, discuss the details with an immigration lawyer.
