How to Change Bride and Groom's Last Name Upon Marriage

My question involves name change laws in the State of: Arkansas

I'm getting married in a few months and our last names are an issue. He doesnt want mine or his and I don't want his. Is there a way for us to change our last name to his great grandmothers maiden name when we get married without having to go to court for it?

Following marriage, you can keep your own surname or take your husband's. If you and he want to take a different surname than he presently uses, he should consider changing his surname prior to marriage - and that does involve petitioning a court.

You both are able to take his great grandmother's maiden name without having to petition to the court. What you both will need to do is fill out your marriage license with the new last name for both of you. Then you'll have to get a new SS card, followed by a new DL, then a new passport if applicable, etc. But yes, you both can change your last name without petitioning to the court.
