Default Harassing Law Firm for Creditor Making Threats and False Accusations at My Job

My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: New York

Are there any laws that protect individuals from creditor harassment?

In Oct. 2010, I set up a monthly payment plan with my creditor through their lawyers. Recently, the law firm abruptly stopped withdrawing the mutually agreed upon payment and have now resorted to calling my job, harassing me, my co-workers and even my boss. I've asked them numerous times not to call my job, but they refuse to listen. They have both my home and cell phone numbers, but they insist on making threats and false accusations to me and my co-workers at work.

Is there something that I can do to make this law firm stop this harassment? Sue them, perhaps?

There has to be more going on here than we know about. Is the plan signed and in writing? You've complied to the letter? What was their basis for "withdrawing" the payment plan?

If in fact they're a law firm, you can get a lawyer of your own and tell them that any further contact must be through your lawyer. The conduct you describe, though, doesn't sound like anything a law firm would actually do, so I would like some context.

    Thanks for the response.

yes, there is a signed agreement to which i have been faithfully complying since oct 2010. we agreed that i'd pay a set lump sum of the debt i owe little by little on a monthly basis. the withdrawals occurred each month, but all of a sudden they stopped, and now the lawyers are harassing me for what? they are never clear... they just make false accusations when I or my co-workers ask what they actually want.

This is indeed a law firm that's doing this.
