My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: Arizona
I enrolled in this school with the promise that I would receive a quality education. Five of my classes were taught by an instructor who did not know any of the material, gave WRONG instruction and information, refused to give lectures or answer questions - and would single out particular (white) female students to publically humiliate and harass during classes, grade unfairly (just a few students), physically rip things from student's hands during class, ignore attempts for help and bully outside the classroom - of which I was one. Not only was this mentally exhausting to me because of the stress, it also caused a great deal of emotional strain as I was not receiving the education I was paying for and if I was somehow able to graduate, would not have the skills needed to pass state board certifications.
All of these concerns were brought forward to the Dean of the Department who told me I was the one responsible for the material in the book. It was all in the book and I should just read more. Actually her she was very condescending and I was left in tears because I felt I had no choice but to continue being subjected to the torment I was enduing in the classroom and with no instruction, direction or help in any of the 5 classes I had with this particular instructor.
This instructor received numerous complaints from every student which were supposed to be monitored. I know that my complaints were continuously ignored and I was extremely depressed until another student finally decided to file an official harassment complaint. The Dean of the school claimed that he had no record of any complaints, ever, about this particular instructor. But after we requested an audit of all of this instructor's electronic classroom feedback reports from the last few years this instructor was immediately let go - during the last week of class with no explanation.
I believe that this instructor was allowed to continue to "teach" very technical classes despite obvious lack of skill and numerous complaints, which were intentionally withheld from review by our department Dean.
I was subjected to harassment due to my gender and race but more devastating was the fact that I did not receive an adequate education. The Dean of the program was fully aware of this fact and did nothing, she hid this problem!
Additionally, I was withdrawn from the school, without consent (although it was in good intention) because the school failed to provide me with any classes to take for an 8 week period. I was told there would be classes available for me later and that I could re-apply at that point. Luckily this was true, but because of this I lost 2 months from my Federal Loan Repayment schedule (I would have had 6 months after graduation to start re-paying my loans). I lost a $1000/semester scholarship as well.
This school is constantly misplacing documents, loosing important paperwork (which I am constantly having to resubmit) and because of the incompetency of this instructor, students were not given proper instruction on how to proceed with graduation requirements, proper paperwork or due dates leaving many of us scrambling to fix many of the errors that occurred as a result. Additionally, our Dean is constantly changing requirements and making up new "rules" that are retroactively-effective causing many of the students financial hardships and inability to pinpoint an actual date for graduation or requirements for any number of issues.
I'm not sure if this is more of a complaint that needs to be filed with the BBB but there is no doubt that I paid for an education that I did not get and additionally suffered emotionally from all of the turmoil or retribution.
