Default Audio or Video Recording on a College Campus

My question involves civil rights in the State of: Texas

I work as a college administrator, in a disciplinary capacity. There have been several times that I have needed to call our campus police to have students escorted out, or arrested in my office. I was advised that audio recording a student during an interview was fine, because Texas is a single-consent state. I have considered installing a hidden camera, in order to protect myself. Would the video recording still fall under the same the single-consent criteria, or does video have it's own set of laws? Also, I do these interviews, in my office, but typically with an open door.

I would advise double checking with legal counsel. However, I believe you should be fine installing the video camera.

    There are two issues here:

1.) Would I suffer any consequences from the state if I install such a camera? The answer is, probably not, but like the poster above, I would suggest checking with legal counsel.

2.) Would I suffer any consequences from my employer if I install such a camera? That's an entirely different answer and only your employer can answer it. My point is that EVEN IF IT IS LEGAL according to the state of Texas, you can still be fired, quite legally, for installing such a camera without permission.
