My question involves defamation in the state of: NJ

I know a guardsman who in the past few months has been acting "unusual". It concerns me of the welfare of his fellow guardsman. He has filed two false police reports concerning break ins. Now there is no sign of forced entry and nothing missing. Anyone with eyes can see there was no break in. He also has had his girlfriend ( who he wanted to engage) walk away from him, and when I have talked with him, he says some very off the wall things. As I said, I find his actions unusual and since he would be armed and under pressure in action, I am trying to figure if and who I can contact about this person, without getting myself into trouble. You know that feeling you get when you know someone is "just not right"? Well I have it on this person big time. Please advise.

How were you made aware of the false police reports? Who determined them to be false?
