My question involves child support in the State of: california
my 18 year old has a baby. She was given sole custody from the father via the courts. My daughter moved out left the baby with me due to financial reasons which was fine. She communicates with me visits baby etc so no issue there. Bio father out of the picture no child support or contact. I have a power of attorney over the child but no official guardianship. I would like apply for some type of assitance to help me with the caretaking ( food stamps maybe cash aide) but I do not wish the State to file for child support against my daughter.
Being that she has sole custody - would the only person be the father that they would pursue or both of them since the child is with me?
The whole purpose of this arrangement was to help her financially and I am a little bit better off than her but not by much I am afraid and I dont want her to go underwater with support piling up especiaily when she will send money when she can get it ( works for a temp agency)
Thanks for your time.
