Default Liabilty for Injuries to Construction Tradesmen You Hire to Work On Your Home

My question involves workers compensation law for the state of: California

Hey, I'm not out to put anyone in harms way. In fact I just need more manpower. I will be doing the exact same work along with them.

But what if I hire someone standing in front of home depot and then they get injured while doing the job? When would I be liable?

Again, I don't plan at all to put anyone in harms way. One of my concerns is that someone may try to purposely look for a situation where they can get injured for the sole purpose of sueing and/or extorting money.

Is it this reasonable or am I overreacting?

the more common fraud being committed in such a situation is you as the employer not reporting the "under-the-table" cash employment to their comp carrier.

If you hire casual workers to do work on your home, you should check your homeowner's insurance policy to see what coverage you have in the event of an injury claim.
