Default Unable to Fulfill the Contractual Agreement

My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: IL

The agreement between the parties are provide subsidy to the employee for 3 years and keep the employee for another 3 year with no pay. After 3 months of work, I could not able to continue in this job and got terminated the contract. In the meanwhile the employer paid some money as subsidy to me. Now the employer is asking me to pay the money back to them. My question is, does IL has any rule that this employer should recover the money within certain period after the termination and after that they can't claim it?

You cannot be required to work with no pay, and it's not credible that you would be expected to do so for three years. You need to do a better job explaining the situation.

If you are describing a bonus you received that is repayable in part if you leave before your third anniversary, repayment would be governed by your contract.
