My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: California

I dated a woman that i have known for thirty years. We had a great time and exchanged many gift's. Now that it is over, she made a list of everything that she either gave me, paid for or feels she is entitled to. She bought a new car from my sons dealership where he is employed as a salesperson. She feels that because i won't respond to her harassment and threats she is sendind my son e-mails to his company email address saying because I won't respond he is my son and has a certain responsibility to repay her even though my son had nothing to do with her other than giving hert a pleasent experiance selling her a new car which she filled out the survey and gave him 100%. I feel that now she has made herself a debt collector so i asked her in an email to stop harassing my family and use the legal system to it's fullest. My sons boss has almost fired him due to the slanderous comment's she has emailed his company.

she isn't a debt collector so those laws do not apply to her.

your son might consider filing for a restraining order against her and might speak with an attorney concerning defamation.

You as well might consider seeking a restraining order against her. You might want to contact the police and report the harassment as well.

Is there a process for harassment orders when there is a 700 mile distance between myself and the harasser short of driving to her town ?

I am guessing this is a different state (not too many states where you can travel 700 miles and remain in state).

Let's dispense with the "scorned ex-lover" label, even if she's being a you-know-what. Certainly, from personal experience I know that the likelihood that people deal with the other party in an entirely forthright manner is slim, and now you're paying the piper. (If she's always been nuts, one would wonder why you'd have been in her life over a 30-year period. If she's just suddenly gone nuts, have a little compassion for what would have to be a mental breakdown of some kind, no?)

Your son is (as you are) free to talk with the police about a criminal harassment complaint if she's been told to stop pestering folks. As for unwanted emails, well, one isn't obligated to keep opening the damn things.

I suspect her boss almost didn't, but even if she said to your son's boss "Your worker stole from me!", naturally it would make sense for your son to discuss with an attorney how much he wants to spend going after her for libel per se.
