Four Different Pending "First Offense" Speeding Tickets

My question involves traffic court in the State of: New York

I have 4 "pre-trial hearings" over the course of the next month. I would really like to know how I should best approach the situation to reduce possible consequences.

In one town:
7/11 - 64/45 Speeding

In another town:
8/1 - Disobeyed traffic device
8/2 - 85/65
8/2 -71/55

I have zero record of any tickets before this. Here is the thing though, 3/4 tickets are from a year ago, and I have not had a ticket in more then 6 months. Whats the best way to approach the court with the difference in conference dates to ensure minimal trouble? Deal with them at once with a lawyer? Hope they all get reduced individually? I don't speed anymore and have a clean record the past 6+ months can that help at all? I am a new driver as well (2-3 years) and I don't plan on getting cought speeding anytime soon.

DO NOT repeat it or attempt to say it in court., Clearly, only 1 would qualify as a first offense. And your attempt to minimize the problem is a big FAIL!

That's a lot of traffic offenses. New York courts aren't known for their leniency when it comes to traffic offenses, you may want to consult an attorney. You probably won't get your license revoked, but you're definitely face a long-terms suspension since you have some many previous charges that I'm assuming resulted in convictions. Get a lawyer to try and work out a deal with the court.

Thanks for well... nothing. I recieved 4 tickets in a short period of time over my first summer driving. I Have been driving around ~800 miles a week since then with all my commute, and have gotten no tickets. I happen to be a good driver, and just felt the need for speed my first summer driving.

One year ago I sped multiple times. I have been driving ever since w/o any issues. What good does it for a first time offender (this is my first time going to court), to have his license suspended for speeding a year ago? I feel like it's fair I pay my fines and move on. Suspending my license out of the blue after a year of good driving as a first time offender? That's all. I am expecting to dig more then $1,000 out of the pocket. That's just for the direct issue, let alone how else it may hurt down the road.

I was 19 and I couldn't care less cruising down the highway a little? I can promise you I bring no more danger to the road then you or anybody else, and am a more then competent driver. This place has done a whole lot of nothing for me. First ticket today was reduced to $50 fine with no court fee.

I love how you all act like you go 65 on the northway.

A first time offender WOULDN'T have his/her license suspended! But, as has been pointed out, you are a REPETITIVE offender! Just because, for whatever reason, your appearance in court to answer for these repetitive offenses has been delayed doesn't give you a pass. I mean, let's keep going with your logic...if the police finally solve a murder that occurred 10 years ago, would it be appropriate for the defendant to proclaim "Yeah, but I haven't killed anyone else in a really long time!" and just be sentenced to probation and a fine? I'm not suggesting your violations are equivalent to murder. I'm just pointing out that your argument is flawed and carrying it to its logical conclusion.

What you personally feel is "fair" is irrelevant. What the laws of your state assert is an appropriate punishment for your repetitive offenses is what is relevant! If you don't like it, contact your state legislator and work to have the laws changed.

You sure are stuck on this idea that you are a first time offender...well, you are not! You are a 4 time offender. And, if your license is suspended, it isn't "out of the blue!" It will have occurred after you showed yourself to be a repetitive offender.

You might want to prepare yourself to dig a little deeper into that pocketbook. By the time you are done with these FOUR violations, it is likely to cost you more than $1,000...and that is just in direct fines and related court costs. Also expect your insurance rates to skyrocket and you can likely forget about any job that requires operating a motor vehicle for at least 3 years.

Aaaahhh, Yessssss!!!! Entitlement! the one trait that gets me motivated to spend hours on this forum, answering questions!

See, the problem is, when you have multiple violations like you do, it becomes difficult to determine whether they will be handled as a group or individually. And regardless of what we might predict, it will go a different way. So you are likely to complain regardless of whether I offer an opinion or not. I save time this way....

1. We are all expected to drive within the limits of the law. And when you drive 800 miles a week and not get cited, you aren't doing us any favors. It only and simply means that you are saving yourself some time, money and hassle, still you get zero credits because of it, and you don't get a break on willful wanton and complete disregard for the law whenever you choose.

2. I'm not going to sit here explaining to you the reasoning why public offenses carry penalties, or how they equally apply to everyone. The simple fact that you are claiming you don't see the benefit behind being penalized, is more reason why you SHOULD be penalized. Obviously the lesson behind these mistakes you made has not sunk in yet. In the least and if you do get your license suspended, you might think twice about how miserable it was to get penalized and so it might the next time you will think twice about “speeding multiple times” like you did last summer.

3. I don't know why it took a year for these cases to get to this stage, but that has zero effect on the potential penalty you are likely to get. The fact that it took so long and in the slight chance that you agonized over what the penalties might be makes whatever penalty a bit harsher to deal with but still, your dues have got to be paid.

4. Your claim that you are a good driver is completely shot down by the simple fact that you admit to making such rash and irresponsible decisions. He next time you feel the need for speed, get yourself on a track -I'm sure you have private tracks in your area- and knock yourself out. Don't do it on public highways where you are likely to hurt others and damage their property.

5. Whether you dig $1, $1,000 or $10,000, all of it came about because of your own actions; therefore you have no one to blame but YOURSELF.

You were 19 years old. If you claim to be an adult who is worthy of a driver's license, you are also an adult who should act in a responsible manner and take responsibility for your own actions.

You offer that you “couldn't care less” driving the way you did AND vbiolarting the law... That really shows how immature and irresponsible you were back then...

Your acting so non-nonchalant, pretending that accumulating 4 citations in a matter of weeks is not a big deal, that you don't see the point behind the penalty is indicative of the same level of immaturity, if not worse.

So what benefit could be gained by suspending your license? How about teaching you a lesson about responsibility, and about how actions have consequences, and about how when you claim entitlement to the privileges of an adult man, you take on the responsibilities that come along.

And we are not on trial here for 4 violations, you are, so whether we are a danger to the road compared to you or not, that is not the issue. the issue is you were caught and you are still in denial.

To be a "competent" driver, and since being in compliance of the rules of the road is a legal requirement, it means NOT getting cited. Well, soon enough, your driving record will be tarnished with several violations; and when it comes to competent, you FAILED!

But here you go.. here is some help understanding the following:

Your first ticket was reduced, simply because IT IS YOUR FIRST TICKET. There was NOTHING on your record.... YET. And hence the $50. As for court costs, those are usually assessed when you go to trial, you didn't go to trial so that is no great feat!

Problem for you, its down hill from here on!

What would you know about "rational"? (Besides how to spell it?) Not much... And the resolution to your problem is you being penalized which is up to the discretion of the prosecuting attorney. While it maybe true that the final decision is up to you, you have zero control over what you get offered.
