    Default What Does the Legal Term "Abeyance" Mean

    My question involves a marriage in the state of:new jersey In my final judgement of divorce, there is a sentence that reads as follows; As far as the children's future college education costs, these will be held in abeyance. Can you explain what this means? thank you

    I expect that as it's not known if the children will attend college, the court is holding the matter in abeyance - postponing the resolution of the issue - until the facts are in.
