Default Attorney "Fired" Us and Kept Our Money

My question involves bankruptcy in the state of: Florida
Our attorney, a very popular attorney in my city, after my wife and I asking to delay our filing over some concerns that we had, and asking to stay in "counsel", abruptly sent us a letter that he was no longer representing us. He returned some of the money in the trust account, but kept over $2000. He knew of the concerns, but was going to allow us to file anyway. Can I do anything to get some of my money back? I feel like I've been robbed.

If he earned the fee under your retainer agreement, then he earned the fee. What does the retainer agreement say about fees earned in the event that the attorney-client relationship ends?
