I worked hotel security for a number of years at a 450-room motel/hotel in Florida. If there was the DND door hanger displayed, and the room was either prepaid or secured with a creditcard, it was not unusual that a check-the-welfare knock and/or call didn't happen in a timely manner.

Especially during busy stretches like snowbird season and spring training.

Bottom line - Nursing homes are required to check up on there occupants, not hotels.
I'm not a lawyer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.......

The hotel never caused my dads death. Granted. I am a bit disappointed that he wasn't checked on sooner. It is unfortunate he had decomposed. Again, not the hotels fault even if he only checked in for 2 days and they left him for 6. He gave his credit card, he never checked out, I am sure they assumed he was staying longer, seeings how they had his CC number they were covered for payment, so why bother knocking on his door. It's just one of those things, one of those stories, something a guy will think about from time to time.
