Default Fingertip Cut Off During Excursion on Honeymoon in Mexico

My question involves an injury that occurred in the state of: Mexico (country)

I was just curious as to what I should do if anything about this. I'm typing with one hand (bad hand) so bear with me. Happened during excursion. ladder on boat for snorkeling trip was not being held by workers, was on previous spot. After helping wife up, I started up ladder, huge swell came and pitched boat, finger was caught in hinge and ladder shut and cut off top of finger with bone, about 1/3 on primary hand index finger. I use hands for work. intricate things with fingers. Excursion place took me to mexican hospital, their choice and doctor, he performed surgery, came back and surgery was not done to standards, had to have another surgery to correct mistakes. I asked a lawyer friend here and he said its international law. Is trickier and didnt have recommendations for me. No clue how much work I will miss because of this. Should I pursue something legally? Do I have any grounds? I do not believe we signed any waivers

Since this happened in Mexico, you should speak with attorneys in Mexico that can address this and apply Mexican law to the situation.
I am not an attorney and any advice is not to be construed as legal advice. You might even want to ignore my advice. Actually, there are plenty of real attorneys that you might want to ignore as well.
