Default Can a Trust Own Intellectual Property, Trade Secrets, Patents, Trademarks

Can a trust own trade secrets, patents, trademarks etc? If so, can they be sold? What would be the tax basis of the sale if any?

Default Re: Can a Trust Own Trade Secrets, Patents, Trademarks Etc

Patents are issued to inventors which have to be living people, the rights can be assigned to a trust.
Similarly, a corporation or an individual can author a piece subject to copyright, but those can be assigned to a trust.
Trade secret "ownership" doesn't really exist.

The basis of anything is the aquisition cost possibly modified by certain things like depreciation.
