Divorce of a Foreign National

My question involves a marriage in the state of: Malaysia/India

I am a Malaysian citizen (female) and married to an Indian citizen (male) in 2007. We did the traditional marriage in Chennai and also registered the marriage at a marriage registration office in Chennai. We also registered the marriage at Malaysia marriage registration office. We live in Georgia USA and we both became permanent residents of USA in 2011. We have decided to get a divorce now in 2012. My question is, where should we file the divorce? Are we allowed to file for divorce in the USA? And do we need to let the USA government know that we are separating/divorcing.
