Default How Much Child Support Can a Parent Get and from Whom

My question involves child support in the State of: California and Texas...

my sister is newly pregnant. She got pregnant by a 16 guy who is from a wealthy family. But he personally doesn't work much... Would she get money from his parents or him? And how would this be calculated? These people are like millionaires wealthy. But the boy doesn't work much himself. Just wondering?

You need to start by deciding what state we're talking about. The child doesn't live in two states.

Child support will be his responsibility and only his.

She won't be getting money from his parents. Period.

despite that he's a minor I thought grandparents could be liable in those cases in some states?

In some states, under some circumstance, none of which apply to any of the states mentioned here. The grandparents didn't make the baby. Those mature enough to make babies need to learn, sometimes the hard way, that they are mature enough to join the rat race, get one or more jobs, to support those babies. No, the baby isn't mommy's meal ticket because daddy's parents are rich. Daddy is a 16 year old - that means that he has very limited earning potential. She'll be getting whatever child support a 16 year old can earn, and unfortunately, the taxpayers are the ones who'll likely be paying her (minimal) benefits for the child, and providing (minimal) healthcare coverage.

So the grandparents might have to pay the $50/month. Interesting.

(You do realize that their obligation will NOT be based upon THEIR income, right?)

I take it your sister is assuming she'll have custody?

plus by the time he's 18 he's required to pay. If he's still living that lifestyle he'd be required to pay as much as what he's living off however that may be... It's not just from the job... It's from any earnings.

HE isn't a millionaire. His parents money will NOT be factored in.

And as Catherine said, this is not Mommy's meal ticket. She has not won the child support lottery. At all.
