My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: PA
Violation of Vehicle Code 3111(a)
Officer's Notes: While traveling northbound, defendant passed several vehicles in southbound lane traveling north. Defendant then entered gas station. (Officer noted he was in the n/b lane stopped at the red light)3111. Obedience to traffic-control devices.
(a) General rule.--Unless otherwise directed by a uniformed police officer or any appropriately attired person authorized to direct, control or regulate traffic, the driver of any vehicle shall obey the instructions of any applicable official traffic-control device placed or held in accordance with the provisions of this title, subject to the privileges granted the driver of an emergency vehicle in this title.
No points, only a fine (110 bucks)
What happened is that the n/b traffic light was red and there were a 6-7 cars already waiting. The s/b lane was empty as the east/west lanes had their green light and the entrance of the s/b lane was blocked by a car(from westbound direction) wanting to turn into north at the light. I saw 2 cars ahead of me that were in front of the entrance to the gas station so I looked for any opposing traffic. I saw none and slowly entered the s/b lane to get into the gas station on the left. The entire length is solid double lines and no specifically marked left-turn lane.
Is there anything that I can say in my defense? This is my first ever offense and never been to court before. I have been driving for 8 years.
Thanks
