Guardianship Requirements for School Registration

My question involves guardianship in the State of: Florida..... My cousin has been having problems with her 16 year old daughter and asked if she could come live with me and my family for her senior year in high school. They will be arriving on Thursday and we have no idea what documents are required to register her for school. I called the school and they gave me very little information, only stating that I need to have "legal guardianship" in order to register her. Is this something that we have to go to court for or can her mom and I just draw up some type of paper online for guardianship or perhaps power of attorney?

If they are telling you that you need to have a court appoint you as guardian in order to enroll the child without paying tuition, then you need to petition a court to make you guardian.
