Who Gets a Minor Child's SSD Check

My daughter and I receive a SSD check every month due to my disablity. Her father and I have joint custody and I had primary placement for my daughter. Recently we went back to court and it was switched to shared placement. It was ordered that my daughter now is to spend 8 weeks during the summer with her father. The question I have, do I need to let SS know that my daughter is with her father for 8 weeks over the summer?? Also who is to receive my daughter SSD check for those 8 weeks??? My ex husband says I need to let SS know and he will receive my daughter's check for those weeks. I have every other weekend placement for those 8 weeks. I do not want to get into trouble for not reporting. Please help.Thanks.

If you are the representative payee, the checks are sent to you, period. Then you are responsible for giving Dad whatever money is necessary to meet the child's needs. The SSA will not change the representative payee for a summer visitation period, nor should it be expected to.

Typically, the representative payee is the custodial parent. This does not change for summer visitation.
