My question involves a traffic citation from the state of: Washington , D.C.
Hi ya'll --
I was recently dinged $250 for parking in a handicapped spot in my neighborhood.
1. It's a quite new sign/spot. As recently as a few weeks prior it had been standard parallel free-for-all on street parking.
2. The sign is north of eight feet off the ground, and above another sign that has the standard residential parking notifications on it. I parked there after midnight. I just plain old didn't see it.
I know nearby Arlington, Va. (perhaps the whole state) specifies handicapped/parking regulation signs must be between four and seven feet from the ground (from the bottom of the sign). I've searched for similar DC regs but can't find any.
Anyone know if there are height standards for parking reg signs? Or if there's a grace period/way to notify residents of a new handicapped-restricted space that should have been in place?
Thanks!
