Can a Mother Lose Custody For History of Incarceration, Marrying a Felon

My question involves a child custody case from the State of: Michigan. My daughter is 5 yrs old and her father and I established half custody last year. I have recently been incarcerated in the past year. I am getting married next year, and family members are threatening me about whom I will marry. He does have a felony record but is stable now. We have everything that she needs and will follow through with having her in the same school district as last year. Can I lose custody of my daughter if we go through with marriage? We are willing to hire a good lawyer, but with both of us having a criminal record, will that effect our custody even though we can provide more for my daughter than her father can?

How long were you incarcerated, how long ago, and what was the nature of your crimes? Your fiance's? How long has it been since your fiance has had trouble?

I was incarcerated twice in the past yr. For larceny and then probation violation due to fines and costs. My fiance hasn't been in any trouble for 2 years now. My daughter was with her father while I was incarcerated and we still have half custody. He lives with his mother and my daughter stays with me more than half time (even though I can't prove it). I don't believe that he can take care of our daughter. He doesn't have a job, no schooling, and has family members taking care of our daughter most of the time she visits. Communication is not good. He never returns phone calls etc... We will hire an attorney if we have to. I don't want to have full custody right now. I just don't want any change in what the order is now.
